What you are buying

Chess Buddy is a browser based chess trainer. The trainer itself is free: a free account opens every line of every set, and every opening guide is free to read without one. Subscriptions sold before 7 September 2026 continue to run and can be cancelled at any time.

Chess Buddy Pro is the paid part. It costs €19.99 for twelve months, or €3.99 a month if billed monthly. Either way the first charge happens on the day you subscribe, and the subscription renews at the same price until you cancel. As a small business under § 19 UStG no VAT is charged and none is shown.

The first charge

Chess Buddy Pro has no free trial: the price you pick is charged on the day you subscribe. The amount, the billing period and the fact that it renews are shown next to the button that concludes the contract, and repeated in the email that arrives right after.

Older subscriptions sold with a seven day trial keep the terms they were sold on: nothing was charged during those seven days, and cancelling inside them cost nothing.

Renewal and cancellation

The subscription renews at €19.99 for another twelve months, or at €3.99 for another month on the monthly period, unless it is cancelled before the end of the current period. You can cancel at any time, without a reason and without contacting support, on the cancellation page at chess-buddy.com/cancel. To confirm it is your subscription we send a six-digit code to the email address the subscription runs on.

Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for. Nothing renews after that, everything you paid for stays open until then, and a confirmation with that date goes to your email address immediately. Cancelling by email to [email protected] works just as well and is handled the same day.

Right of withdrawal and refunds

As a consumer in the EU you have fourteen days from the day the contract is concluded to withdraw from it, without giving a reason. We do not ask you to waive that right in exchange for immediate access, and we do not shorten it.

One email to [email protected] within fourteen days gets your payment back in full, no reason needed and no questions asked. The refund goes back through Stripe to the payment method you used, normally within a few working days.

What the product does not promise

The lines here are training material. Many of them are traps and gambits that work because a particular opponent plays a particular move, and the opening pages say so where it matters. Nothing on this site promises a rating gain, and no rating outcome is part of the contract.

Chess lines are drawn from public lichess studies by their authors, credited and linked on the page they appear on, plus engine checks on tactical lines. The content library grows over time, and new sets that land during a paid period are included at no extra cost.

The game review inside Pro is written by a person, not generated, which is why the queue is small and the first review takes up to three working days. Features announced as coming, such as deeper analysis of your game history and structured improvement plans, are not part of what you buy today.

Availability and liability

The service is provided as it is, and short interruptions for maintenance or provider outages can happen. Liability is limited to intent and gross negligence, except for injury to life, body or health and except where liability is mandatory by law. Where an essential contractual obligation is breached through slight negligence, liability is limited to foreseeable damage typical for this kind of contract.

These terms are governed by German law. Nothing here removes consumer protection rights you have in your country of residence.
